Internet connectivity

We work closely with the UK’s leading data providers to bring you a fast, reliable and congestion-free connection. Want to know the best part? Our internet connectivity has an impressive uptime of 99.99%! But what does this mean for you? Well, you can focus on unhindered learning for your students and the freedom to make the most of your connected technology!

No more slow connections.

Our full fibre broadband is ultrafast (you can get speeds up to 10Gbps) and meets the DfE’s broadband standards for schools. We also offer other cost-effective connection types too, so you’ll get the best speeds at the best price to suit your school or trust.

Dedicated leased line

This is a standard for most secondary and larger primary schools! Leased lines provide your school with your very own fibre connection that you won’t have to share with anyone else. It gives you the same upload and download speeds (up to 10Gbps). All our leased lines come with SLAs starting from 4 hours. Pricing for leased lines can vary depending on the location of your school, and what data providers are in your area.

FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) uses fibre optic cables that goes directly to your school, allowing for ultrafast broadband! It’s one of the full fibre connections recommended by the DfE, and is usually installed in 15 working days (subject to Openreach). It can provide your school with speeds that are up to 10 times faster than FTTC and EoFTTC. The maximum speed is up to 1Gbps download and 220Mbps upload.

SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) provides broadband over a single connection without the need for a phone line. Where FTTC provides two connections (one for data, and one for voice), SoGEA provides data only. This means it’s cheaper than the traditional FTTC connections, and quicker to install too! It uses fibre-based technology from the local exchange to your green cabinet box, and provides speeds of up to 80Mbps.

EoFTTC (Ethernet over Fibre to the Cabinet) is ideally suited to primary schools and smaller secondary schools. It provides superfast broadband through an uncontended line, with further boosts from your local exchange when needed. You’ll get a guaranteed line speed, even at peak times (no matter how many users are online!).

filtering and security for schools

Meet the DfE standards.

The Department for Education (DfE) has set standards for connectivity in schools. You should have a full fibre connection so you have the capacity and speeds you need to be able to use online resources effectively to aid teaching and learning. It future proofs your school as demand for internet services grows. Full fibre connections include dedicated leased lines and Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

You should also have a backup connection! With our increasing reliance on internet-based services, broadband is an essential service. You should have a backup broadband connection in your school so if there’s an unexpected internet interruption, you can carry on as normal while it’s being fixed.

The technical details.

Our cloud-based services are hosted from highly secure data centres that have multiple independent internet connections from the UK’s leading data providers. The data centres have two independent power supplies (and three backup generators!) to guard against major power outages. The redundant air conditioning and fire suppression systems maintain server safety and performance, and the 24/7 security presence and CCTV monitoring means maximum security! When you join our network, you’ll get:

  • Superfast connectivity you can trust.

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) cores in London and Birmingham are configured for failover and load balancing. This minimises downtime and keeps your internet speeds high!
  • Private communication across all your sites.

Our private network allows any connected schools to collaborate and share resources with an uninterrupted and secure connection.
  • Straightforward security.

You’ll get a centralised co-located firewall for internet access, with a single route in and out of the network to simplify your security management.
  • Implementation and operation support.

We have dedicated installation engineers to get you started, and an expert support team to keep you safely connected. They’re all bound by tight Service Level Agreements (SLAs) guaranteeing 24/7 support and fix times starting from just 4 hours.
